This browser can’t compress video yet. It needs WebCodecs, which recent Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer have. Firefox on Android doesn’t. Try another browser, or use the photo compressor.

        Short answer

The WhatsApp video size limit is 64 MB per video, a figure WhatsApp’s own help pages call the maximum on all platforms. Many phone videos are bigger than that. To compress video for WhatsApp, drop yours above, keep the WhatsApp preset and download an MP4 of about 63 MB. It carries no watermark, only your picture and sound.

How to compress video for WhatsApp

        1. Choose the video

Pick the clip from your phone, camera or computer. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV all work, and the file stays on your device while it is compressed. On an iPhone use Safari, on Android use Chrome.

        2. Keep the WhatsApp preset

The size is already set to 64 MB, and the tool aims for about 63 MB so the file stays under the line. Before you start, the plan on screen shows the resolution, the frame rate and the expected size, and the tool warns you when the video is too long to look good at that size. The video size calculator shows how long a video can be.

        3. Compress

Press Compress video. Your browser re-encodes the clip as H.264 video with AAC sound. If the first pass comes out over the target, the tool lowers the bitrate, then the resolution or the frame rate, and runs again until the file fits.

        4. Send it in WhatsApp

Download the MP4 and send it in a WhatsApp chat like any other video. MP4 is one of the formats WhatsApp lists as supported, and your original stays exactly as it was.

WhatsApp video size limit 2026: 64 MB and 100 MB

WhatsApp’s help pages give two video figures that do not quite agree. One page calls 64 MB the maximum file size for a video sent or forwarded, on all platforms. The same page then says the default video size limit is 100 MB at 720p on a faster internet connection, and 64 MB at 480p on a slower one. We follow the lower number: a file under 64 MB is under both. For a smaller file than that, see compress video to 50 MB.

Video in WhatsApp Limit What counts
Maximum, all platforms 64 MB One video sent or forwarded
Default on a faster connection 100 MB, 720p WhatsApp’s default video size limit
Default on a slower connection 64 MB, 480p WhatsApp’s default video size limit
Status video 90 seconds The length of the video, not its size

        Questions about WhatsApp and video

What is the max video size for WhatsApp?

Per WhatsApp’s help pages, 64 MB for a video sent or forwarded, on all platforms. The same pages give 100 MB as the default on a faster connection, so they are not fully consistent. A video under 64 MB is under both figures, which is why the tool aims for about 63 MB.

Is the WhatsApp video size limit 64 MB or 100 MB?

WhatsApp’s pages use both. 64 MB is called the maximum on all platforms and the default on a slower connection, at 480p. 100 MB is the default on a faster connection, at 720p. The pages do not reconcile the two, so the preset sits at 64 MB, which is under both.

Can you send a 1 GB video on WhatsApp?

A 1 GB video is far over the 64 MB maximum, so it has to shrink to about 6% of its size to fit. The tool does that by lowering the bitrate, then the resolution and the frame rate, so a long video comes out much softer. The plan on screen says so before you start. A clip of a minute or two is a smaller cut: according to Apple, one minute of 1080p iPhone video takes 70 to 105 MB.

What is the WhatsApp video size limit for status?

WhatsApp’s help page states the Status limit as a length: a video of up to 90 seconds. To compress video for WhatsApp status, make the file smaller with the preset above. The tool changes the size, not the length, so a clip over 90 seconds has to be shortened before you use it.

        Does WhatsApp compress videos?

Yes, as a rule. WhatsApp’s help pages say media files are usually compressed when shared, so the quality of what arrives may be lower than the original. That happens inside WhatsApp, after you send, and nothing on this page changes it. What you control is the copy you start from, and the plan above shows its resolution and size before you press Compress video.

Why does WhatsApp reduce video quality?

WhatsApp says media may arrive at a lower quality than the original because it is usually compressed when shared. Its default resolution is 720p on a faster connection and 480p on a slower one. A size limit is a budget of bits for the whole video, so a shorter clip keeps more detail at any size. For more on that, read compress video without losing quality.

Can I compress video for WhatsApp online without watermark?

Yes. The tool runs in your browser and adds no watermark: the new file holds only your picture and sound. It works in current Chrome, Edge and Safari, and in Firefox on a computer, and on an iPhone in Safari. For any other size, the full video compressor online takes a size of your own.

Is my video uploaded when I compress it?

No. The video is converted in your browser, on your own device, and is never sent to a server. It reaches WhatsApp only when you send it yourself. Compression does cost some quality, so play the result before you send it.
